Membership Card System - An Explanation to Students

Your membership card is your College identification card and allows you entry into the buildings to borrow books from the Libraries as well as other items of equipment from the College.

One of your responsibilities is to keep your membership card with you at all times.

The system has been introduced in order to ensure safety and security for students, staff and College property.  The main points are as follows:

  1. To open the doors to the buildings you need to use your student membership card.
  2. To leave the buildings you press a button marked "door release" next to the doors.
  3. If you are suspicious of someone who follows you into the building please report the incident immediately to a member of staff.  If you feel personally threatened by the person and no help is immediately available you may break the nearest fire alarm to summon help.
  4. If you lose your card you must go to the Finance office at the Blenheim Walk building where your old card will be cancelled and a new one issued.  One replacement card will be issued free of charge each year.  Any subsequent cards will incur a replacement charge of £5.
  5. Your card does not allow you 24 hour access to buildings.  Most student members are able to gain access between 8.00am - 9.00pm Monday - Thursday (4.30pm Fridays) and by arrangement during the holidays.
